1 Jaggermeister -- author: DrinkBoy rank: 1000
Message 8 of 20 from DrinkBoy date 12/23/2002 5:59 PM Thanks Karl,   I've already got a printout of that list here on my desk that I've been scanning over in hopes of finding a good option, but with selections such as 'Jagermeister topped with Fanta', 'Jagermeister with milk and Bailey's over ice with a strawberry', 'Jagermeister, Bailey's, Melon Schnapps',.  'Jagermeister, Red Bull'... I've got my doubts :->   It appears as though most (if not all) of these recipes are simply submissions from the 'unwashed masses' of frat-boys out there trying to come up with 'awsome' concoctions that they can ...
2 Jaggermeister -- author: DrinkBoy rank: 971
Message 9 of 20 from DrinkBoy date 12/27/2002 5:53 PM So, here are some of my thoughts and observations regarding Jagermeister... with the holidays and such I haven't had as much serious time as I'd like to put my full focus on this.   First off, I think it is important to point out that coming into this I was admittedly biased 'against' Jagermeister. It has such a raw reputation of being the 'slam down shots' of rowdy frat boys, and other such folks who just want to get piss drunk. And my 'cocktail' experiences in the past were alwasy with it mixed ...

5 Jaggermeister -- author: bishop rank: 928
Message 10 of 20 from bishop date 12/28/2002 12:16 AM I tried the Jagermeister and to my untrained taster it tasted a lot like root beer but with a bitter taste.   I tried 1oz of Jagermeister and 1 oz of Meade.  This was just a little too sweet, so I added 1/4 of lemon.  For some reason, I always use less lemon then most recipies call for. I didn't want to over do it.   It came out all right for my taste.  I think I might try sweet vermouth next time.   I am thinking that maybe along the lines of a ...

8 Italian Bitters or vermouths -- author: Robert rank: 895
Message 2 of 2 from Robert date 11/17/2004 4:14 PM Yes, it is a little confusing. There are unfortunately two different 'classes' of bitters. There are things like Angostura and orange bitters, which I refer to as 'cocktail bitters', and then there are things like Campari, Jagermeister, and Fernet Branca, which I simply classify as 'bitters'. Or perhaps it might be more appropriate to call them 'herbal bitters'? The Italians tend to really own the market on bitters, with at least a dozen different products that tend to be in that category.   It is important to remember that prior to the ...
9 Jaggermeister -- author: DrinkBoy rank: 895
Message 15 of 20 from DrinkBoy date 1/9/2003 3:58 PM Here's a Jagermeister drink that looks like it might just fit the bill. I still need to mess around with tuning it up a little bit but I think the flavors are balancing out pretty good. It has some of the same flavor profiles as the 'Tailspin', meaning that it isn't at all shy about letting you know it has some rather robust flavors bouncing around.   2 parts dry vermouth 1 part Jagermeister 1 part Benedictine   I might play around with bringing a base spirit into play on this, ...

11 Jaggermeister -- author: Fascination2040 rank: 895
Message 17 of 20 from Fascination2040 date 2/2/2003 8:02 AM Browsing through a cocktail book and stumbled across this one quite by accident, as I wasn't even looking for a Jagermeister cocktail.   Surfer on Acid 3/4 oz Malibu 3/4 oz Jagermeister 1/2 oz unsweetened pineapple juice Shake ingredients with ice; strain into chilled shot glass.   Unsweetened pineapple juice?  They must mean pineapple juice without any additional sweetener?  Pineapple juice is naturally sweetened.  Unless they're telling us to unsweet the juice, in which case, how do you unsweet a juice?  Perhaps add salt?  Yuck!   Jen
12 Jaggermeister -- author: DrinkBoy rank: 895
Message 16 of 20 from DrinkBoy date 1/28/2003 3:29 AM Ok, so I've been playing around with my jagermeister cocktail a little... after trying different ratios of Jagermeister and Benedictine, as well as adjusting the amount of dry vermouth, and even trying to see if a base spirit would work better, I constantly came back to my original recipe... but with one small addition that I think added a special little zing that fit in quite well. A quick coating of cinnamon tincture to the glass before pouring in the drink.   Has anybody else given this a go yet? I'd ...

14 Cheese and cocktail pairings? -- author: aerportman2 rank: 837
Message 17 of 17 from aerportman2 date 10/9/2008 7:11 AM i was going to say that people's taste varies a moderate amount. did you know that a certain percentage of the population (myself included) think that cilantro tastes like soap? there are even genetic issues that affect how people taste things. i would just provide a small set of cocktails that you like - a small set of cheese, and let your guests choose which combinations they like. it can be exciting for the guests to figure out what pairings they like, rather than having something set up for them in ...

17 Sidney Frank -- author: mbanuhanoj rank: 837
Message 6 of 6 from mbanuhanoj date 1/17/2006 3:45 AM Sidney Frank successfully sold Jagermeister by popularizing an urban legend that Jager was an aphrodisiac, and by bringing back the 'shot girl'.   Sidney Frank successfully sold Grey Goose because he guessed, quite accurately, that the average consumer with money to blow on premium liquor doesn't really know anything about it, and that there's a very good chance they don't particularly care anyhow, as long as drinking it makes them look sophisticated. Put average vodka in a classy bottle, put the classy bottle in a classy shipping crate and charge a classy price for ...

Message 5 of 6 from Boston Dude date 1/16/2006 1:32 AM MBANUHANOJ:   I dont get your last comment.  Sidney Frank was incredibly successful because he met some consumer needs.  Regardless of what you and I think of Jagermeister and Grey Goose, lots of people buy and enjoy these brands.  At the end of the day, it is about making the consumer happy.   Boston Bob
19 Premium herbal liquor? -- author: Robert rank: 837
Message 6 of 6 from Robert date 8/26/2005 8:34 PM I'm not really aware of much between the two extremes, and the US isn't a very big market for bitters, except in the case of Jagermeister, which has become one of those favorite 'shots' amongst certain crowds.   I always consider it as being the Italians that really love this particular category, partially because they have so many offerings in it.   In most cases these products are ones with lots of history behind them, and just sort of grew up out of the culture as opposed to being 'built' with ...
20 Premium herbal liquor? -- author: Robert rank: 837
Message 4 of 4 from Robert date 8/26/2005 6:12 PM 'herbal liquor' and 'bitters', are sort of the same thing. And it gets confusing if you look too closely.   At one end of the spectrum you have things like Jagermeister, Campari, Fernet, on the other end you have dry vermouth.   If your definition of 'premium' is pricey, then you might consider Chartreuse VEP (http://www.chartreuse.fr/pa_vep_uk.htm) which retails for $112 here in Washington State, or even Herbal Elixir de la Grande-Chartreuse (http://www.chartreuse.fr/pa_elixir_uk.htm) as players in this market.   Many of these herbals/bitters are a bit of an aquired taste, and so I'm ...
21 Italian Bitters or vermouths -- author: oubilet rank: 837
Message 3 of 3 from oubilet date 3/25/2005 9:01 AM The break from bitters I think happens further down the line from the Italian vermouths. Most amari and non-Italian bitters are a combination of spices, roots, herbs, barks with a neutral grain spirit or a fortified wine. Any fruit additives tend to be from skins and stones rather than the flesh itself. The obvious connection is the dominance of bitter botannicals.   Amer Picon (even in its current form) and Apperol are the last of the bitters. Strega, and Chartreuse, which contain many similar notes to their more austere predecessors are the ...
22 BOLS liqueurs layering order list -- author: Robert rank: 837
Message 12 of 12 from Robert date 9/20/2004 4:39 PM Philip,   Great post... thanks... I know that I am sometimes guilty of retaining a perception of a product that isn't necessarily based on 'scientific' evaluation... but more just on a 'gut reaction' based upon some preconcieved notion. Jagermeister for instance... it has a 'product reputation' that doesn't appeal to me. And since it's flavor is one that takes a bit of time to get used to, I was able to immediately relegate it to the 'persona non-grata' category without thinking much about it.   Thankfully, I was able to correct this ...
23 New York Smoking Ban -- author: Fatdeko1 rank: 837
Message 9 of 9 from Fatdeko1 date 5/1/2004 8:12 AM After reading all the posts on this thread, I still get an uneasy feeling that the collective 'we' has a world view that we are but passive members in the unfurling of events; that 'we' are not agents or affirmative actors in what happens in our own spaces.I'm not talking about whether 'a smoker' may be able 'to smoke' or not, nor whether he has the right to.Frankly, he don't.But some of the posts belie a kind of passive determinism that doesn't really jibe with the world. Our bars are public spaces ...
24 Blender Drinks -- author: DrinkBoy rank: 837
Message 3 of 41 from DrinkBoy date 4/9/2003 2:44 PM Audrey,   If -anybody- can figure out how to take the concept of a 'blender drink' and actually make it work, it would be you. I'll anxiously be awaiting your results... who knows, I might actually have to go out and buy a blender! :->   Here are my thoughts...   As you mention, the common blender drink reminds me of snow-cones. And I really don't think that a cocktail should remind you 'that much' of childhood. If you want a snow cone, order a snow cone, don't try to 'hide' your ...
